This is a comprehensive introduction to professional life coaching, providing students with a foundation in core skills and a thorough understanding of the coaching process. It is ideal for students who would like to pursue a career in this area but have no previous background in life coaching or related areas. A life coach works with individuals to help them reassess their current lifestyle and make changes, identify life goals, and move towards greater fulfillment at work and in their personal life. It has been defined as: 'the systematic application of behavioural science to the enhancement of life experience, work performance and wellbeing for individuals, groups and organisations who do not have clinically significant mental health issues or abnormal levels of distress'. (Australian Psychological Society, 2007)
The course includes course book, The Coaching Manual: The Definitive Guide to the Process, Principles and Skills of Personal Coaching, well as all required study materials and full tutorial support.
Study topics include: principles, values and beliefs; becoming a coach; core skills; developing communication skills; the life coaching process; building an effective coach-client relationship; the coaching path; planning coaching assignments; barriers to effective coaching and how to overcome them; ethics and life coaching. This course involves approximately 70 hours of study time. Students can complete the course at their own pace and have up to three years to complete their studies if required. On average students take 4 - 6 months to complete this course based on a few hours study time each week.
