Whatever type of horticultural business you would like to run - from plant nursery to fruit grower, garden centre to plant breeder - this course will suit your needs. The course includes all course material, full tutorial support with an expert tutor/mentor and course book The Complete Small Business Guide, Colin Barrow. Study topics include: exploring horticultural business opportunities; the horticultural marketplace; market research; motivation, getting to know your customer base; the role of advertising, marketing and PR; an on-line presence; creating a business plan; small business and the law; networking; future forecasts; sources of advice, information and further training. The course was developed in association with LPtraining an Edinburgh-based business training and support agency with extensive practical experience in this area. The course can be studied entirely from home in your own time and is designed to be flexible. You can work through the 12 assignments at your own pace, depending on how quickly you want your start-up to progress - this could be anything from 12 weeks - 2 years. You are assigned a personal tutor at the beginning of the course who will work with you for the duration. Your tutor can be contacted at any time if you have any questions or problems, or if you would simply like to discuss how the course is going - in a very real sense, a mentor as well as a tutor. .
