This home study course provides a broad theoretical introduction to counselling. It is an ideal starting point if you would like to go on to pursue a career in counselling, and is equally suitable if you would simply like to know more about counselling theory. This ten-module course introduces all the main counselling theories, and shows how you can apply theory to your practical experience. Study topics include: childhood and human development; Freud; Jung; psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling; theories of grief and loss; the impact of trauma, attachment theory. The course includes all study materials required, textbook, Mastering Counselling Theory, and full tutorial support. Students have up to three years to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace. On average, however, it takes students around 10 - 12 months to complete the course, based on 2 - 3 hours study time per week.
