This is an advanced course for professionals who find themselves working with children and young people in a counselling or support context. It may also be useful for experienced counsellors who require training in this specialised area. It has been written by professionals and experts in their field, and as such is based on practical experience, up-to-date research and a strong theoretical foundation.

This is a comprehensive introduction to working effectively and therapeutically with children and young people. Study topics include: the child-counsellor relationship; theoretical and practical foundations; child counselling skills and approaches; understanding adolescence; the process of therapeutic change; play therapy; self-esteem building; social skills; developing protective behaviours. Students have up to three years to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace. On average, however, it takes students around 10 - 12 months to complete the course, based on 4 - 5 hours study time per week.
